Workshop: Realism and Abstract Art

Join our facilitator to explore diverse artworks across the galleries. Uncover the ways artists and artworks communicate mood, feelings and their response to the world. By participating in collaborative activities in the galleries you’ll form and express your own opinions about art and discover how to compare these two very different styles of art.

Duration: 1 hour
Cost: Led by Museum staff - £40 for up to 15 pupils, £60 for up to 35. Free for some schools (see booking information).

Curriculum

Expressive Arts

  • Exploring the expressive arts is essential to developing artistic skills and knowledge and it enables learners to become curious and creative individuals.
  • Responding and reflecting, both as artist and audience, is a fundamental part of learning in the expressive arts.
  • Creating combines skills and knowledge, drawing on the senses, inspiration and imagination.

Languages, Literacy and Communication

  • Expressing ourselves through languages is key to communication. 

Humanities

  • Enquiry, exploration and investigation inspire curiosity about the world, its past, present and future.
