Your Museum, Your Say - Help shape the future of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales

“Everyone in Wales should be able to use their national museums for learning, creativity and enjoyment. But to achieve this, we know that there is more work for us to do,” says David Anderson, Director General of Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales as the organisation responsible for Wales’ seven national museums and collections centre launches a public consultation on it future.

Amgueddfa Cymru has launched a public consultation asking the people of Wales for their view on what they should do over the next 10 years, to help make Wales a better place in which to grow up, to live and to work.

The Museum wants to hear from as many people as possible,  and the many diverse voices from communities across Wales. Amgueddfa Cymru has identified seven proposed goals as a starting point for discussion which include subjects such as access to collections and representation of all communities, biodiversity and the environment, health and wellbeing and digital content.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged us to rethink our role and purpose in Wales, and to develop new ways of working," continues David Anderson.

"We are now moving away from the 20th century model of a museum as a holder of objects that operates only within its own walls, to a new model which ensures that culture is accessible, relevant and engaging in communities across Wales.

“We want to hear from everyone – including those individuals who don’t visit or engage with museums. How could we do things better? How would you like to see the museum in your community and how should we reflect that community?”

The consultation will be live until 30 September. People can contribute in different ways by visiting museum.wales/yoursay, sending comments via email, completing a survey, or by getting creative through family activities. There is also an easy read document and survey and a spoken version of the consultation. There will also be opportunities throughout the consultation period to respond through our Amgueddfa Cymru Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts.

Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a family of seven museums and a collections centre, which are all free to enter thanks to the support of the Welsh Government. One of its museums, St Fagans National Museum of History which explores the history and culture of Wales, won the Art Fund Museum of the Year 2019.

As a registered charity, Amgueddfa Cymru is grateful for all support.

The events and exhibitions programme is supported by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
