Date:
2021-04-12Sleeping bag? Check. Flashlight? Check. Food supplies? Check! Everything is packed for Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Cardiff new ‘Sleepover at Home’ event which launches today (12 April).
Museum Sleepover: Natural World at Home will be held on 22-23 May 2021. The event will start at 1.00pm and finish at 10.00am the following day.
The event, which is supported by the People’s Postcode Lottery, will take families on a trip around the world, over land, sea and sky, through a mixture of live and pre-recorded materials featuring items from the Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales collections. Making special appearances during pre-recorded portions of the evening will be nature TV presenters Iolo Williams and Lizzie Daly.
To deliver elements of this exciting new event, Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales has teamed up with Pembrokeshire-based farm and zoo, Folly Farm, and Jabulani Safari, a South African safari that rescues orphaned elephants.
Museum Sleepover: Natural World at Home is suitable for children 6-12 years old, and the event will include a British Sign Language ticket option, as well as the option to take part in Welsh or English. The event will give families an opportunity to spend time together and help to create lasting memories.
Jennifer Galichan, Curator at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales, helped to shape the event and says:
“The past year has given many of us time to reflect on what’s important, such as spending time with our families. Studies have shown that spending time in nature is good for our wellbeing, and we hope that this event will inspire people to get out into the natural world and bring nature to life in their own homes.”
Tickets for the event are £5.00 (+ an Eventbrite booking fee) for the whole family and will be available to purchase from 11am on 16 April from the museum’s website.
