A service to remember at St Fagans: National History Museum

2006-11-11Ten years ago the Newbridge War Memorial was moved from Caetwmpyn Park, Newbridge to St Fagans: National History Museum. This weekend, 70 years since the original unveiling of the memorial, remembering 79 local soldiers, the Museum plays host to a special Rememberance Day Service.
The service is held at 11.00 am with Lord Lieutenant Captain Norman Lloyd-Edwards, Don Touhig MP, the Newbridge branch of the British Legion and former soldiers attending to commemorate the sacrifice made by soldiers in the First and Second World Wars, and other wars.
The service, led by the Rev. Margaret Jefford, will be preceded by a procession of the Blackwood Air Cadettes 227 and pipe band, to the memorial from the Museum entrance at 10:30 am. Local members of the Guides and St John's Ambulance as well as Ty-Newydd School, Newbridge Comprehensive School, Crumlin High Level Primary School, Pentwynmawr and Pantside Schools will also take part in the day's proceedings.
John Williams-Davies, Director of Museum Operations at Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales said:
“It is an honour for us to hold this special service with the British Legion close to the memorial which is very important to many Welsh people. This Saturday we will welcome visitors, soldiers and members of the public to remember those who fought for peace and freedom in war.”

These are National Museum Cardiff, St Fagans: National History Museum, National Roman Legion Museum, Big Pit: National Coal Museum, National Wool Museum, National Waterfront Museum in Swansea and the National Slate Museum.
