A Museum of 'world class practice'

2009-01-28January might be considered a ‘slow month' and, in the current climate, many are feeling unmotivated. But for staff at the National Roman Legion Museum, the New Year heralds good news as the Museum, based in Caerleon, has been awarded the Investors in People status of a high standard.
The Investors in People model encourages organizations to operate efficiently and make sure employees have the right knowledge, skills and motivation to work to the best of their abilities.
The National Roman Legion Museum attempted the Investors in People profile framework, which enables institutions to stretch their capabilities and benchmark against other businesses. Reaching its goal, the Museum achieved one level two and nine level four, which according to Investors in People is considered ‘world class practice.'
"We are delighted an external and valued organization has rated the Museum operations and its staff so highly," said Bethan Lewis, Manager of the National Roman Legion Museum. "Investors in People has encouraged more effective teamwork, we understand and take an interest in each other's roles and also celebrate success.
"Investing in the Museum's staff has resulted in happy workers and satisfied visitors. People visit the Museum to see our collections and to find out more about how the Romans used to live 2,000 years ago. But they leave with more than that.
"The staff are the ones who welcome visitors through the door, who lead the events and workshops, they bring the collections to life - and always with a smile! Investors in People has proved the more you invest in your staff, the better the end result for visitors."
The Museum's offerings this month include an evening talk about the work of the public in finding important archaeological discoveries, from 6 to 8pm, Wednesday 28 January (suitable for adults, £3 per ticket). And the Museum is dedicating time for toddlers on Friday 30 January when the little ones can enjoy making music and singing songs in both English and Welsh. The session for children from 18 months to 3 years old will be held from 1.30pm until 3.00pm. Please book for both events by phoning (01633) 423134.
Entry to the event and each of Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales's sites is free thanks to the support of the Welsh Assemble Government.
Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales operates seven national museums across Wales. These are National Museum Cardiff, St Fagans: National History Museum, the National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon, Big Pit: National Coal Museum, Blaenafon, the National Wool Museum, Dre-fach Felindre, the National Slate Museum, Llanberis and the National Waterfront Museum, Swansea.
