Powerful play is staged at Waterfront

A powerful and captivating play exploring the origins, events and opposing viewpoints of the 1910 Tonypandy Riots will be performed at the National Waterfront Museum this Sunday, 21 November.

Spectacle Theatre’s Tails from the Horse’s Mouth tells the story of a Valleys family in the midst of the 1910 Cambrian Miner’s strike. Using a mix of music, sound effects and lighting, the story takes us on the journey of what happens when three policemen are sent to lodge with them.

The play, which has been created with organisations and individuals of all ages throughout Rhondda Cynon Taf, has already proved a big hit with schools and community groups.

Artistic Director of Spectacle Theatre, Steve Davis said: “We’re delighted to have the opportunity to perform this play at the National Waterfront Museum this weekend.

“It’s already proved extremely popular throughout the Rhondda region – it’s not only an opportunity to commemorate the events of a hundred years ago, but a chance to learn about ourselves today and what we want to be in the future.”

The play also links into the Museum’s forthcoming exhibition, Strikes and Riots (20 Nov to 3 April) - an in-depth look into troubled times throughout Wales's industrial history.

Tails from the Horse’s Mouth will be performed at the National Waterfront Museum this weekend, Sunday 21 November at 2.30pm.
