Colour Kickstart

THE countdown is on as the new National Waterfront Museum in Swansea gets ready to launch this year's Big Draw event on October 8.

Now in its sixth year, The Big Draw 2005 — is set to send a wave of creativity from Swansea and around the National Museums & Galleries of Wales sites.

Each site celebrates Big Draw in its own way using the museum building and collections to encourage people of all ages to have a go at drawing. Everyone is welcome at Big Braw events, whether you're an experienced artist or not.

It will be the first official event to be held at the National Waterfront Museum which opens on October 18, so make your mark — before we officially open!

We invite you to add a splash of colour to an exciting, action packed day. Drop-in activities explore how history has influenced the development of this magnificent building. Sessions include quick draw activities and longer workshops, to include interior design, architecture and banner making. Help us decorate the Museum for our opening celebrations.

On Saturday, October 8, you are invited to draw on the inspiration found in our buildings and collections and landscape at the Museum of Welsh Life, St Fagans.

Get some tip s from artist Caroline Smith before creating your own work of art.

Get drawing at the National Museum & Gallery, Cardiff. Explore different ways of drawing while working with artists. You may want to help build a giant drawing from rubbish or experiment with materials during this fun filled day on October 15.

Visit a Roman Villa and draw a real Roman as part of the Big Draw at the Roman Legionary Museum in Caerleon. Theres an opportunity to dress up as a real Roman and draw yourself during our special activity on October 15.

At Big Pit we encourage you to find out more about artist Josef Herman and how he would be inspired by workers including miners who he accompanied to the coal face. Be inspired at our Special Big Draw activity weekend, October 15 and 16.

Have fun at the National Woollen Museum Dre-Fach Felindre. Artists will lead sessions for children and families. A great opportunity to be inspired by different Museum collections and to experiment with lots of drawing materials. From October 25 to 28.

There will be plenty of actives at the National Waterfront Museum where the building itself will be the main focus. Head of NWM Steph Mastoris said: “We want visitors to be inspired and draw on the wonderful experience that awaits them here."

Culture Minister Alun Pugh added:

"Wales' newest museum will be the ideal inspiration for Wales' young artists. This is a great way to encourage young people to visit our museums and learn about different aspects of history ."
