The Ermine Street Guard has become a familiar sight at the Roman Military Spectacular, Caerleon, South Wales. But this year’s event (7 and 8 July 2007) will be of greater significance for the soldiers as the Guard celebrates its 35th Birthday.

The National Roman Legion Museum is honoured the Guard is returning to the spectacular event, exactly 35 years since the eight founder members of the society first paraded at the historical pageant in the combined Gloucestershire villages of Witcombe and Bentham.

"We have developed a good relationship with the Ermine Street Guard – a relationship which spans over 20 years,” said Bethan Lewis, Manager, National Roman Legion Museum. “The Guard attended the re-opening of the Museum in 1987!

“The soldiers’ involvement in the Roman Military Spectacular helps to bring history alive, making it easier for people from the local community and beyond to understand how Romans fought, worked and lived. The event is guaranteed to give you an authentic taste of life in Roman times.”
