Family Fun Ahoy for the Museum's Pirate Weekend

There'll be plenty of free family fun ahoy this weekend at the National Waterfront Museum’s two-day Pirate extravaganza.

Set your clocks for the city-based venue to catch the maritime action between 11am and 4pm this Saturday and Sunday (6 & 7 August).

Try out a 19th century rope-making machine, have a go at creating a pirate-themed bandana, eye patch or tatty treasure box and listen to some swashbuckling storytelling by the Museum’s very own costumed pirate.

Other activities include a family treasure trail to hunt for colourful rare parrot eggs and traditional performances of shanty singing and music. And don’t forget to join Mary MacGreagor and Annie Greengrass, two seafarers as they bring their past to life with the aid of scraps of scummy old maps and bawdy songs in a special puppet show.

Speaking about the forthcoming event, Marketing Manager, Marie Szymonski said: “We are all really looking forward to the activities planned this weekend. There will be plenty to keep the whole family entertained and it’s all free.”

With that and the permanent gallery displays and temporary exhibitions, including A World of Welsh Copper and Golden Venture: An Artists Residency at Parys Mountain Copper, the National Waterfront Museum promises to be a great day out this weekend.
