Remembering Terrence Higgins
Born in Pembrokeshire in 1945, Terrence Higgins was one of the first people in the UK to die of an AIDS-related illness in 1982. To mark the 40th anniversary of his death, this exhibit highlights a newly acquired portrait of Terrence Higgins that was created by artist Nathan Wyburn. The portrait itself is made up of ink stamps of the Terrence Higgins Trust, a charity which was started in 1982 in order to actively educate, support and illuminate stigma as well as new cases of HIV.
Displayed alongside the portrait was the original plaque from the memorial tree that commemorates the people who have died from AIDS in Wales. The exhibition aimed to memorialize those lost as well as highlight the organizations fighting for positive change which have been created as a result of the AIDS pandemic.
