Tess volunteers once a week with the Human Remains Project at National Museum Cardiff. The Human Remains Project catalogues and organises all the skeletons that we have at Amgueddfa Cymru. With over 1200 boxes to sort and catalogue, this a long term project that requires a lot of patience.

The Archaeology Department also conduct regular field-walking events at historical sites across Wales that our volunteers participate and help with.

Historic Buildings Unit

These are the HBU Volunteers (Historic Buildings Unit) at St Fagans National Museum of History. We have a team of 20 volunteers who help us maintain our historic buildings, for example helping us limewash our Chapel.

They will also be helping us build our new Celtic Village, Bryn Eryr. As well as building the Celtic Village, the HBU volunteers will be helping to make the fixtures and fittings for the round houses, such as nettle and bramble string and rope for the thatched roofs and wood benches for inside.

Learning Volunteers help Amgueddfa Cymru with summer activities, workshop preparation and tours. The Learning Volunteers at National Museum Cardiff help our staff run activities at the Clore Discovery Centre as well as our Insight Galleries. Liam is manning the Insight Gallery’s handling station and giving visitors the opportunity to asks questions. The Clore Discovery Centre is always busy during school holidays and requires many hands on deck to show our handling collections to families and visitors.

The Activities Volunteers at St Fagans National Museum of History help in the same way as our volunteers at National Museum Cardiff, but tend to require wet weather gear or sun cream! Claire and Jessica are two of our volunteers who have been helping us with our At Cart, Celtic and Nature Activities.

Garden Helpers

Garden Volunteers help us maintain our beautiful gardens alongside our dedicated staff in the Garden Department. We have gardening volunteers at St Fagans National Museum of History and at the National Roman Legion Museum at Caerleon.

The Garden Volunteers help Amgueddfa Cymru clear and prepare beds for planting, research plants, record and maintain our gardens. The volunteers in the photographs have been helping prepare our flower beds and clear the plants from old borders.

Art Tour Guides

National Museum Cardiff have a dedicated team of Art Tour Guides who provide our art and temporary exhibition tours. They research and conduct these tours every day at Amgueddfa Cymru and help us bring our collection to life.
