This Photography & Filming Policy applies to visitors, volunteers, researchers, students and contractors. It applies to all sites and areas; the galleries, in the grounds and behind the scenes of Amgueddfa Cymru.
This policy does not apply to professional photographers who have been commissioned by Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales. Commissioned photographers must abide by the terms of Professional Service Agreement which must be completed, signed and returned before any photographic work commences.
We want our spaces to inspire and create new memories, and we welcome you to take photos. However, photography must be for personal, non-commercial use only unless written permission has been granted. This applies to filming also.
Some items on display whether that is in the galleries, in the grounds or behind the scenes of Amgueddfa Cymru may be subject to copyright laws or may be items on loan to Amgueddfa Cymru. In such cases taking photographs and filming is prohibited. Visitors, volunteers, researchers, students and contractors are therefore not permitted to take photographs or film in places where there is a ‘no photography or filming’ sign.
When in non-public areas, visitors, volunteers, researchers, students and contractors must ask the permission of the curator, tour guide or staff member leading the group.
When taking photographs and filming on site, whether that’s in our galleries, in the grounds or behind the scenes, you may be approached by staff and asked about the purposes of your activities. Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales reserves the right to request that you stop if you are found to be in breach of this policy.
We welcome and encourage you to share your images on your personal social media channels, however the images must not be used for any commercial purpose. The term commercial means that the use is for commercial advantage or any private monetary compensation. Examples of commercial use include:
Visitors, volunteers, researchers, students and contractors must obtain written permission before using images or films in any commercial capacity and permissions need to be cleared before any photography can take place.
If you wish to undertake a photography shoot or undertake any filming on one of our sites for any commercial use such as wedding photography or for any group events, arrangements must be made with our inhouse team in advance. Please contact venuehire@museumwales.ac.uk
Volunteers, researchers and students may take images as part of their work. All terms stated in all sections above must be followed. Most importantly this includes seeking permission to take photos in non-public areas.
In addition, Volunteers, researchers and students must obtain written permission from AC-MW before publishing any images they have taken of our sites or collections.
Volunteers, researchers and students may use their own images in their dissertations, coursework, reports or exhibitions providing that these submissions form an integral part of the course they are following and non-commercial.
Subsequent exhibitions, commercial articles or reports do not come under personal use and further permissions must be granted. In all cases Amgueddfa Cymru - Museum Wales must be credited:
