PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Nasia’s Perspective(s) project explores the museum as a space for upholding and deconstructing power narratives and takes place at St Fagans Museum in South Wales throughout 2024, into early 2025. In collaboration with arts & social practice company Ways of Working and Amgueddfa Cymru, Sarwar-Skuse created four installations inspired by her research. Highlights include a tent influenced by Tipu Sultan, a site-specific film, and a 70s South Asian Living Room centred around Clive of India's sofa. The project also partners with Aurora Trinity Collective, a grassroots group by women of colour, to incorporate new voices and artwork.
QUOTE
“I got involved with Perspective(s) while researching Robert Clive’s connection to Wales for my PhD, which presented an ideal opportunity to challenge traditional historical narratives by highlighting overlooked stories and connections with empire, particularly those related to the Clive family, and to foster a deeper understanding of Wales' cultural heritage.”
