FAQs

What are Skills Development Placements?

These placements are created with you. You can send us an email or ring us to enquire about a placement and we will try and find an opportunity for you. You must be over 16 years old and have a barrier to employment such as a learning or physical disability, a mental health condition, or perhaps you are a refugee or are not in education, employment, or training (NEET).
These placements are usually one day a week for a few hours for a maximum of 6 months. You can get in touch, or someone can get in touch on your behalf.

What are Student Work Placements?

These placements are advertised on our website and are available for students aged 16 and over who are studying on a course. These placements can be part of a course requirement or for your own personal development. The length and commitment of these placements vary and will be noted in the role description – most of our Student Work Placements can be flexible.

Do you offer work experience at any of your museums?

We do not currently offer work experience at any of our sites. If you’re a young person (16-25) who wants to get involved in the museum, you might want to check out how to get involved with Bloedd.

I work for a university/college, can one of my students come on placement?

We do not offer Student Work Placements by enquiry. All of our student work placements are advertised, and students must follow our recruitment process to apply.

Do you have paid/funded placement opportunities?

Funded placement opportunities will be advertised on our website as and when they are available. Please also check our Research page of the website for opportunities in Research such as PhD Placements.
Please also check our Jobs page of the website for paid placements

I need help to complete the enquiry/registration form, what should I do?

If you need extra support in understanding the enquiry/registration form, you can either email the  Volunteering Department , or telephone us on (029) 2057 3002.
We can fill out the form over the phone with you and can accept applications via short video or audio file. Get in touch with us to talk about this.

How accessible are your placements roles?

We aim to make as many of our roles as accessible as possible. We try to host our sessions in rooms that are accessible and easy to get to. However, because our museums either contain historic buildings or are located in listed buildings, it may not always be possible.

Each Student Work Placement role description will note if there are any accessibility restrictions or things you may need to consider. If you require any reasonable adjustments, please let us know and we will try our hardest to meet these. Skills Development Placements are created with you, and as such we take your accessibility needs or any reasonable adjustments into account from the beginning.

Do I need to speak Welsh to do a placement?

The majority of our roles do not require you to speak Welsh. If a Student Work Placement can be undertaken though the Welsh Language, it will be stated in the advert. We can create Skills Development Placements that can be done through the Welsh Language, but this might be specific to some of our sites such as St Fagans or the National Slate Museum in Llanberis.

Will I have to undergo a police check?

This depends on the placement role and will be noted in the role description.

How do you keep my personal data safe?

We store your personal data in line with current data legislation. For full information please see our Volunteer Privacy Policy here. We need all the information we ask for on the registration and/or enquiry form to be able to process your request.

Can you keep my information? Do you have a mailing list?

Yes! Sign up for our Mailing List here. You will be asked about your preferences and interests. Just make sure to tick the box for ‘Volunteering’ or ‘Placements’ and we will email you with new opportunities when they are being advertised. You will be able to unsubscribe at any time.
