This is a study for a statue of Lloyd George at Caernarfon, and was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1921. David Lloyd George (1863-1945), the 'Welsh Wizard' of early 20th century British politics, was a member of Asquith's reforming Liberal government and Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1908. During the war he was Minister of Munitions from 1915, becoming Prime Minister of the Coalition Government from 1916 to 1922. He was also painted by both Augustus John and Christopher Williams.
