Running Away with the Hairdresser
SINNOTT, Kevin (1947 - )
Date: 1995
Media: oil on canvas
Size: 160.0 x 216.0 cm
Acquired: 1996; Purchase; with assistance of Knapping Fund
Accession Number: NMW A 3993
The artist was born in Wales and studied in Cardiff, Gloucester and London before returning to live in Bridgend. His paintings deal with memory, emotion and experience, rather than specific events. This subject began with a darker painting of a single half-length male figure, with the underlying theme of leaving one's past behind. In contrast to this 'serious, even somewhat pompous idea', the artist views Running away with the Hairdresser as 'a momentary slip into fecklessness... a mature scepticism towards youth's arrogance'.

For me it's so exciting. I can just imagine her in the salon, its a hot day and she's bored of the repetetive conversation and the same pungent smells of hair solutions when he puts his head round the door and says "fancy the beach?" She throws her comb on the table and goes.
The national museum one isn't working
Hi Ann, thank you for your enquiry. Kevin Sinnott now lives and works in South Wales. He moved back in 1995, after living in London for many years. You might be interested in his website: http://www.kevinsinnott.co.uk/index.htm.

I have been back there nine times to see it again and it has not been on display.
Of all the paintings in the collection, surely this must be the nations favourite, and yet it is not displayed .....
I am at a loss to imagine why this is the case?
Please let me know when I might see it again.
Many thanks
