Event:After Dark: Science on Show
After Dark: Science on Show is a free hands-on science evening suitable for all the family.
You’ll be able to meet scientists and engineers from Amgueddfa Cymru and Cardiff University and explore loads of fun, interactive activities all while being in the museum after dark!
What can we do?
- Meet the curators from Natural Sciences and have a taste of some edible bugs.
- Play our ‘Bridge of Lies’ game and hop, skip and jump your way to the end.
- Find out how we listen for cracks in materials.
- Discover how to start star gazing and find out how to use telescopes.
- Learn about microplastics and recycle some plastic live!
- Play with the Energy Orchestra.
- How are fossils formed? And see some amazing specimens up close.
- Chat to our vertebrates curator about the illegal animal goods that are brought back into the country – and how that endangers animals. With Dr Rhys Jones!
- Make do and mend! Learn more about upcycling and repairing clothes.
- Do you know what’s in your mobile phone? See what minerals are used and where in the world they come from.
- Become a guerrilla gardener – make a seed bomb to take away.
- Code a robot and make it move.
- Get hands on with magnetic materials
- And lots more !!
The museum café and shop will be open during the evening for some snacks and treats!

Opening Hours
Our opening hours are changing for the winter season.
From Tuesday 5 November until 28 February 2025, we will be open 10am – 4pm.
Parking
A Visitor Car Park is situated behind the Museum, off Museum Avenue. Visitors parking here will receive a ticket at the point of entry and need to pay £6.50 for the day at a pay-station located at the rear of the car park. Please note that the pay-stations only accept card payments – no cash payments are accepted. Visitors can use any credit/debit cards (except for American Express), or Apple or Android Pay.
Parking is free to blue badge holders. Please use the intercom at the exit barrier to verify your blue badge permit. Disabled parking is also available at the front of the Museum, on Gorsedd Gardens Road.

You can plan your journey using the Traveline Cymru website or by calling their helpline on 0800 464 0000.
Eat, Drink, Shopping
- The Museum café in the Main Hall is open every day 10am-4pm offering a range of drinks and snacks.
- The restaurant is open weekends and bank holidays at 11am-3pm.
Accessibility
If you prefer to visit when we’re less crowded, there are usually fewer people on our site from 3pm each day.
