Watkin Williams-Wynn’s chamber organ, built by John Snetzler and designed by neo-classical architect Robert Adam (1728-92).

Organist Richard Walker

Join us for a concert in our organ recital series at 1pm on Friday 28 June.

Concert-organist Richard Walker will play a special 30-minute programme on the magnificent Williams-Wynn Wynnstay 18th-century organ.

Richard Walker is Assistant Director of Music at St Chads Church, Shrewsbury, where he accompanies most of the major services, organises the 45 lunch-hour concerts each year and gives organ recitals. He also plays regularly at Ludlow Parish Church. Richard studied organ with David Willcocks, gaining both ARCO and FRCO diplomas in the same year, and both with prizes.

His career has been largely in teaching, first at The Edinburgh Academy, and then as Director of Music successively at Daniel Stewarts and Melville College Edinburgh (1975  – 80), The Leys School Cambridge (1980 – 85), and Harrow School (1985 – 2005).  He was also Assistant Organist at St Marys Episcopal Cathedral Edinburgh and subsequently Organist at St Johns, Princes Street, Edinburgh.

Apart from his organ playing, Richard plays piano chamber music and duets and is a member of the double bass sections in the Ludlow and Shrewsbury Orchestras.

As capacity is limited in the gallery, pre-booking is essential.
