Talk: Behind the Scenes: Sunken treasures: a sea shell collector’s dream

National Museum Cardiff
5 September 2024 , 2pm
Cost £8
Suitability 11+

A collection of nearly 2 million shells is kept just behind the scenes at the Museum.

We have shells of all shapes and sizes, from the beautiful to the mysterious, found in almost every habitat and country on Earth.

This Welsh collection is of international importance, and is searched and used daily in a surprising variety of ways.

The visit will take you into the Melvill-Tomlin shell store where you will be able to handle some of the most extraordinary shells, see newly-discovered species, find out about Britain’s rarest snails, and even hear a shell trumpet!
