Bronze Age Gold from Wales
Study for Blaenau Ffestiniog
PRENDERGAST, Peter (1946-2007)
Peter Prendergast was born near Caerphilly and was fascinated by the mountains of North Wales.
His expressionist style, full of energy and punch, was well suited to capturing dramatic hill faces shaped by generations of slate quarrying.
These studies for Blaenau Ffestiniog show how Prendergast built up colour and line to capture the atmospheric landscape.
The finished work was voted one of the most popular in our collection as part of the Art 100 campaign on Instagram (@celfarycyd) in 2020.
