PHILLIPS, Thomas (1770-1845)

Edward Copplestone was an English academic and churchman. As Bishop of Llandaff (1827-48) he was the leader of the Anglican Church in south Wales. He was involved in public life, writing to Prime Minister Sir Robert Peel on topics such as the "Increase of Pauperism". As Bishop he supported church restoration in Wales and oversaw the building of 20 new churches in his diocese.
