Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Early Medieval lead weight

Circular, domed lead weight with flattened top capped with copper alloy mount, of 8th or 9th century date. The decoration comprises 'L' shaped recesses and a central square recess for enamel which is now missing.

Viking lead weight for weighing silver.

The lead weights found at Llanbedr-goch show that people there were heavily involved in trade around the Irish Sea and beyond. Traders bartered or exchanged goods, or paid mainly in silver by weight.
