La Ciotat

FRIESZ, Othon (1879 - 1949)

In the summer of 1907, Friesz painted with Georges Braque at the town of La Ciotat, on the Mediterranean between Marseille and Toulon. This stridently coloured Fauvist work belonged to Hugh Blaker, the art adviser of the Davies sisters, and was purchased from his sister's estate by Margaret Davies in 1948.
