Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Still Life with Poron

Still life depicting a lobster, lemon and vessel on a table. It is one of three paintings of a lobster on a table painted by Picasso on the day after Christmas in 1948.

'Still Life with Poron 'presents a lobster, a lemon and a porrón (a traditional Spanish wine pitcher) on a kitchen table. Cézanne was a key influence on Picasso and this still life, painted after the Second World War, continues this influence. The way the table tilts towards the viewer is a device often used by Cézanne.
