Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Pont Neuf, Snow Effect, 2nd series

PISSARRO, Camille (1831-1903)

Between December 1900 and his death Pissarro lodged intermittently at 28 Place Dauphine on the north side of the Ile de la Cité in Paris. This snow scene with a motor car, carriages and pedestrians with umbrellas crossing the Pont Neuf is from the second series of views of this bridge which he painted form the window of his apartment during this period. It was purchased by Margaret Davies in 1920.

Work was part of the AFA tour (2009-2010): From Turner to Cézanne: Masterpieces from the Davies Collection, National Museum Wales
