The dance
PUEBLA Y TOLIN, Dioscoro Teofilo de la (1831-1901)
Born at Melgar de Fermantel in the province of Burgos, Puebla Tolin studied in Madrid and Rome. Subsequently a professor at Cadiz and Madrid, he specialised in history paintings and genre scenes. This cabinet painting of dancers in late eighteenth century dress dates from around 1871 and is a reduced variant of a large composition of a Minuet.
