Bronze Age Gold from Wales

The letter

LAVERY, Sir John (1856-1941)

Lavery was born in Belfast, and trained at the Glasgow School of art, and at the Académie Julian in Paris. In France he was very influenced by French Naturalism. In later life he became a much sought-after society portraitist. The light tonality and intimacy of composition of this picture, exhibited in 1908, reflects his French training.
