Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Telford’s Holyhead Road A5, photograph

Jones, Robert Protheroe (Curator at Amgueddfa Cymru.)

Remains of the original Pont Pen-y-benglog over Afon Ogwen (SH 604 / 648; 100m NW of Idwal Cottage / 10m E of Rhaeadr Ogwen) built as part of Telford’s Holyhead Road and now situated beneath the later larger bridge on a higher and easier alignment; viewed from the north east. The straight join visible in the underside of the arch of the later bridge shows that the west half was built considerably earlier than the east half.
