LEWIS, Edward Morland (1903 - 1943)

Golygfa ar aber Afon Taf yn Nhalacharn ger man geni'r arlunydd yng Nglanyfferi, Dyfed. Seiliodd Lewis ei ddarlun ar ffotograff du a gwyn, gan sgwario hwnnw a throslunio amlinelliad o'r olygfa. Dysgodd y dechneg hon oddi wrth ei athro, W.R. Sickert, a fyddai'n aml yn defnyddio ffotograffau yn sail i'w gyfansoddiadau.

A view on the estuary of the river Taf at Laugharne, near the artist's birthplace of Ferryside in Dyfed. Lewis based this painting upon a black and white photograph, from which he squared off and transferred the outline of the scene. He had learned this technique from his teacher W.R. Sickert, who frequently utilised photographs as the basis of compositions.
