Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Blaenau Ffestiniog Circle

LONG, Richard (Studied at West of England College of Art, Bristol and St Martin's School of Art, London. Long is the main figure in a generation of British landscape artists.)

Richard Long is a key figure in the development of conceptual art in Britain. His work embodies the landscape and marked a significant change in the methods artists use to represent the environment. Circles often feature in Long’s work, echoing ancient stone circles. In this sculpture, the artist selected pieces of slate from Llechwedd Quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog. The landscape is literally brought into the gallery.
