Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Miner underground, photograph

Two colliers are pictured cutting out a soft centre bed of a thick coal seam in a South Wales colliery. The top coal would then be fired down and the bottom coal lifted to form the stall or working and access road. Note the angled sprags holding the top coal secure while the men work underneath it.
