Edward Herbert, 1st Lord Herbert of Cherbury (1583-1648)

Born at Montgomery Castle, Lord Herbert (1581/3-1648) lived there and at his Shropshire Manor of Cherbury. A celebrated philosopher, historian, swordsman, musician and equestrian, he was ambassador to France in 1619 and 1622-4. Le Sueur was born in France and probably learned the elements of Florentine Mannerist sculpture from Italians working in Paris.
