Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Working man's bedroom

LEWIS, Edward Morland (1903 - 1943)

After studying at the Royal Academy Schools and working as Sickert's assistant, Lewis joined the London Artists' Association in 1930. In London he shared digs with his brother Eric, who is depicted convalescing in this composition. Painted in the early 1930s and first exhibited at the London Artists' Association in 1932, this 'intimiste' interior reveals Lewis at his closest to Sickert.
