Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Pit Hands (print)

Hand coloured engraving 'Pit Hands' (with engraving of a coal mine on reverse). This engraving is from S.C. Hall “The book of south Wales, the Wye and the coast”, London, 1861, page 282. The illustrations and text in this book were previously published in “The Art-Journal”, new series, vol.6, 1860, with this engraving appearing on page 220. The text accompanying the image in the Art-Journal makes it likely that the location is in the Merthyr area, or at least the Heads of the Valleys. The background buildings are part of an ironworks.
