Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Llanerch Colliery, photograph

Black and white photograph showing Herbert Saunders (bowler hatted) with the Billie Clock at Llanerch Colliery pithead.

The "Billie Clock" or "Billie Chwarae Teg" was a large weighing scale where the amount of small coal in a tram could be recorded so that a collier could be paid the correct amount. A weigher, employed by the company, and a checker, on behalf of the colliers, also kept a record.
