Beachley Pier - Looking into the shaft sinking for downstream half of pier foundation. Steel piling in the upper section forms cofferdam to hold out river. Concrete rings support ground during excavation. River bed is at junction between these. Excavation approximately 20ft. deep and 40ft. below high tide mark. 18 June, 1962.
