Bronze Age Gold from Wales
Italian boy with a Marmot
MÜLLER, William James (1812-1845)
One of a series of genre pictures of Italian street musicians and vendors painted after the artist's return from Italy. The boy has a wooden hutch strapped to his chest and holds the guinea-pig in one hand as he extends the other towards the spectator for payment. The reverse of the canvas is painted with a river landscape which probably dates from the 1840s.
