Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Penydarren tramroad, photograph

View of retaining wall along a section of the 'Penydarren' or 'Methyr' tramroad just below Merthy Vale, 1947. The masonry wall reaches in places a height of 25 feet. It was necessary because this part of the track is cut in boulder clay which lines the side of the valley, and on that account there can be little doubt but that it was built when the tramway was laid.
