Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Dish

Beswick, John (John Beswick is credited with modernising the Beswick factory after the death of his father and company founder, James Wright Beswick, in 1921.)

Small dish, white earthenware body with cream coloured glaze, of triangular form with lobed edges, triangular foot ring; at the centre of the dish is an underglaze, transfer-printed stylised circus scene, comprising two black 'stick figure' acrobats in pink dress, each standing on the back of a cantering circus pony, printed in a pale blue with black highlights, above these is a pair of trapeze artists, one male and one female, the trapeze extending from the dark red, hand-painted rim border.
