Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Snowdon from Beddgelert

COX, David (1783-1859)

David Cox was a major figure in the golden age of British watercolour painting, a period in the early 19th century when wartime travel restrictions led artists to explore the landscape on their doorstep. This little watercolour was owned by Kyffin Williams. It is possible Williams acquired it because his work had been shown in parallel with that of Cox in an exhibition at the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery in 1959. They were both artists who defined popular perceptions of Wales through their art.
