Bronze Age Gold from Wales

In Wales

ANSDELL, Richard (1815-1885)

The well-made furniture and rich array of domestic equipment suggests that this is the home of a smallholder or artisan. The character of this single storey house open to the thatch suggests a location in Snowdonia, within reach of the artist's native Liverpool. The attention to detail is typical of Ansdell's style around 1840, before he became a successful but rather superficial animal artist.
