Photograph of Rhymney ironworks during the 1880s. Union (east bank) mills and forges with Nos.7, 8 and 9 blast furnaces in background, with Bessemer cupolas just visible to their left (west). Blowing engine house between furnaces and mills, and coke ovens just visible in smoke above and behind furnaces. Bessemer department in twin-gabled building in distance on extreme left; limekiln recessed into tip and Rhymney Railway in foreground. Post dates erection of second Bessemer pit in 1880/81. Predates closure of works in 1891.
