Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Italian coastal landscape

DESSOULAVY, Thomas (fl.1829-1854)

This painting probably depicts the Bay of Naples, a popular area for artists in Italy. The influence of the classical style is evident in Dessoulavy’s delicate technique, grand parasol pine-trees and panoramic vista. Dessoulavy belonged to a close circle of British artists resident in Rome, which included the Welsh artist Penry Williams.
