The green vase

Born in New York State, Shannon moved to London in 1878 where he studied at the Royal College of Art. He enjoyed early success as a painter of society portraits, exhibiting at the Royal Academy from 1881. In 1886 he was a founder member of the New English Art Club. His 'Flower-Girl' was purchased by the Chantrey Bequest for the Tate Gallery in 1901.
