M.V. PORT VINDEX, negative

¾ Port stern view of M.V. PORT VINDEX at Cardiff Docks.

Laid down as a cargo ship in 1942 by Swan Hunter & Wigham Richardson, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, but requisitioned by the Admiralty whle still on the stocks and completed in 1943 as a Nairana-class escort aircraft carrier HMS VINDEX (pennant no.D15). In this form she carried a complementof 700 crew. 1947 – Decommissioned and reconstructed for commercial use, she was returned to the Port Line and renamed PORT VINDEX as a reflection of her wartime service – there is no such port as Port Vindex. She was broken up at Taiwan in 1971.
