Bronze Age Gold from Wales

Trevithick's Penydarren locomotive model

Model in brass of Trevithick’s Penydarren locomotive of 1804. Model based on Llewellyn drawing of 1803, making the model a representation of either the Coalbrookdale locomotive of 1803 (usual interpretation 1980s-2010s) or of an unbuilt design (interpretation of Lewis et al, 2018). Model acquired 1979 to show the general form of a Trevithick-designed locomotive to prospective manufacturers of components for the Museum’s full size conjectural reconstruction of the locomotive (1992.63/1) which was then being planned.
