Late Bronze Age sword scabbard chape

Ogival chape, with lozengic section, central perforation, median ribs and flattened edges. With diagonally aligned perforations, double moulding at corners and engraved hatched triangles at the mouth, which is damaged. This item is incomplete; the upper end (i.e away from tip) is missing.

Site Name: Crowther's Camp, Guilsfield

Date: 1862

Notes: Found during the digging of a field drain, packed tight as though originally deposited in a perishable container, on the south-east side of Rhuallt, 100m from Crowther's Camp, an Early Iron Age hillfort, near Guilsfield.
