Bodidris Trust Limited, debenture

Bodidris Trust Limited, £1,250 debenture, 1927, black on white. * Black print on white with handwritten details completed in black ink. Blue ornate border around. Embossed £1.12s.6d stamp dated (19)27 at top. One £1,250 debenture numbered '8'. Dated 26th February 1927. Issued to Captain Gerard Powys Dewhurst. Signed by Gerard P. Dewhurst and EW ?rliss (Directors) and E.W. James (Secretary).

The debenture is made out to Captain Gerard Powys Dewhurst (b.1872), whose family, of Manchester cotton merchant stock, owned Bodidris Hall, a late Tudor house in Denbighshire. The Bodidris estate encompassed part of the Denbigh and Flint lead mining field, notably Llandegla Moor, adjoining Bodidris Hall, on which were sunk a number of lead mines, including Bodidris Lead Mine. This 1927 certificate appears to pertain to a settlement of the family estate that sought to reduce liabilities to individuals by the adoption of limited liability.
