The Queen of Spades

Hawksley, Rozanne (1931-2021)

Glove piece in a glazed case, comprising a right-hand glove in white leather (kidskin?) with a long cuff of white silk lined in black silk and covered in black lace, a black gauze bow at the wrist attached by a cut-steel brooch, on the middle finger a ring set with ?glass stones, the thumb holding down three playing cards of vellum painted with acrylic paint and ink as the three and seven of spades and a combination of the Ace and Queen of Spades, the glove flanked on each side by a black ribbon, the whole resting on a rectangular base covered with a purple polyester crepe fabric and underneath with dark blue felt and black ribbon, this sitting on crumpled black synthetic fabric that loosely lines the bottom of the rectangular case, the case with a black painted wood frame and glazed top and four sides.

Two black tapes attached beneath the internal base feed through a hole in the bottom of the case and tie to hold the internal base in place.
