Bronze Age Gold from Wales
Optical Bowl with Fractured Rim
Bowl, stoneware painted with white and coloured slips, flattened elliptical shape with flat base, the sides rising to a slightly everted rim, the rim higher at the back and shaped to give the illusion of a fully rounded bowl; the whole of the exterior except the base overlaid with a speckled white slip, a band round the rim and the top edge painted in coloured slips (white, dark green, pale greeny-blue, pale blue, rusty brown breaking to orange/ochre, buff) in angled strips to give the effect of fractured faultlines.
